Excellent feature rich monitor with gorgeous picture and innovative stand

Review Date: December 11, 2008
Reviewer: Adam Brandt,
I have owned this monitor for about a month. I studied a few monitors at J&R and found this to have the picture with the nicest colors on a glossy display. I don't do photo editing as the man below so I can't comment on how accurate the colors are for exact photo editing. However the monitor is VERY adjustable and looks great to me. Their are a LOT of settings to adjust just about any aspect of the picture. And as I said I am not a professional photo/video editor so my opinion is just as an average computer user. I have owned about 7 LCD's and this is by far the nicest. And as long as the resolution is set to 1980 X 1200 you won't have any fuzzyness as described in the review below. I too run OS X on this monitor as well as Vista, and both set to the default resolution nicely and displayed well. I am running OS X on an ATI Radeon 3870 so perhaps the video card could be the difference. All monitors have had a fuzzy look for me in any Windows I have used when not set to the default resolution, and I have owned about 7 LCD's in my lifetime for computers not counting my television.
I LOVE the stand. Never before have I had a monitor with such an easy to maneuver stand. With great ease you can adjust it's height, as well as tilt to just about any position you like. This monitor comes with more features than any other monitor out there. A webcam, built in microphone, 2 rear 2 x 4 watt speakers, USB hub, a remote control. And even a 3 brightness level LED light underneath for reading documents or to help you type at night.
All in all I couldn't be happier with this monitor, and when used correctly I think anyone else would be happy with it too. If you are still unsure, try and visit a local store and try one out, and I think you too will be impressed.
very pleased with this monitor

I have had this monitor for about two months now. I cannot speak for the stand, as immediately upon receiving it, I attached it to a home made pole I have located near my couch and connected it to my netbook via HDMI. However, I can say that it is located between two windows, so glare could be an issue - but I have not found it to be. The monitor is feature rich, but the biggest thing for me is it is easy on my tired old eyes. I can honestly say that I have had many, many lcd monitors over the years (there are four connected to my desktop now alone), and I am happiest with this one. My other current models include another HP (older), some Dells, and Samsungs - this one is by far the easier for me to see, even sandwiched betwen the windows. If money and space were no object, I would replace every one of them with this monitor.
Nice large monitor

This is a very nice monitor. The monitor has lots of extra features and of course is huge. I love the keyboard light and the ability to use the card reader without the PC even being on. I do not see all of the color issues mentioned in the other reviews. There are various adjustments so that you can modify to your liking and needs. Overall, I am very please with this purchase.
Excellent quality, functionality, and appearance

I've had this for over 5 months.

What I was looking for:
Large real-estate for doing graphic editing and webdesign
Fast response time and vivid images for gaming (WoW)

After researching, I was torn between this model, and the Dell 24" Ultrasharp. Also, I flat out would have bought the Apple 24" Cinema Display, except that it could not be used with any non Mac (and even some older macs!).

Overall: A fantastic monitor that is gorgeous to look at and view things on. Shipping was fast, and nothing was damaged (I was really concerned about having something as expensive and fragile as monitor sent by mail).
* Speakers:The built in speakers are adequate. They do not provide depth of sound or volume, but neither do they produce that thin, squeaky, tinny sound that characterize really cheap speakers.(The monitor allows you to designate alternate audio sources)
* Built in camera and mic work very well.
* Controls: easy to access.
* Built in card reader is a plus. The fact that the monitor functions as a huge digital photo frame, reading images off your storage media, and controlled by the included remote, is way cool, if entirely useless to me.

Why only 4 stars?
* No manual of any value.
* Some of the controls are not intuitive, but they aren't cryptic either.
* At first, the monitor seemed to be having problems waking up from Sleep mode... but then who doesn't. It was annoying, but the problem has long since gone away. (This leads me to believe that it might not have been the monitor itself.)
* The Stand: only minimal vertical adjustments are possible. No swivel, and no rotation to portrait mode.
The HP w2558HC Meets Expectations

The HP W2558HC performs well. The base provides excellent maneuverability for any viewing angle while maintaining stability for the monitor, and providing a storage area for the keyboard when not in use. The design and functionality of the stand was one of the reasons for buying this unit.

Since I do not work with graphics, color accuracy is not extremely important. The adjustments to picture quality appear adequate, and I find color reproduction to be satisfactory for my use. The response time is good, and the work light with variable intensity is a nice feature.

While there are lower priced 25 inch monitors available, the added features of this unit make the price reasonable.

I am comfortable with the purchase of this unit, and recommend it be given serious consideration when purchasing a monitor of this size.
